Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Gotta (gottaenglish.com) is a free website that shows how everyday English phrases really sound, using short clips of songs and videos. It is a personal, non-commercial project run by an individual. This policy explains what data is involved when you use the site. In short: you don’t create an account, we don’t ask for your personal details, and we don’t sell anything about you.
Who to contact
Questions or requests about your data: admin@gottaenglish.com.
What we collect
- Anonymous usage statistics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages are popular, which country visits come from and what kind of device is used. It does not use cookies and does not identify you personally.
- Technical logs. Like any website, our hosting provider (Vercel) briefly processes your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
- Emails you send us. If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to reply, and delete them when they are no longer needed.
We don’t collect names, passwords, payment details or any information about your location beyond country.
YouTube videos
The song and speech clips on Gotta are official YouTube videos played through the YouTube embedded player (YouTube API Services). We never download or store the videos. Video previews load from YouTube’s servers, and when you press Play, YouTube (Google) may collect information such as your IP address and how you watch, and may use cookies or similar technologies. This is governed by the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. We use the privacy-enhanced (youtube-nocookie.com) version of the player.
Cookies and storage in your browser
The public site doesn’t set its own cookies. Some features, such as saving phrases you are learning, may store data in your browser’s local storage. That data stays on your device and is never sent to us; you can clear it in your browser settings at any time. If we ever add a tool that needs non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent first.
Who processes data for us
- Vercel Inc. — hosting and anonymous analytics.
- Supabase — our database, hosted in the EU. It stores the phrases and clips shown on the site, not data about you.
- Google / YouTube — the video player, under their own terms.
Some of these companies may process data outside your country, under their own data-protection safeguards.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, in the EU or UK under the GDPR), you have the right to ask what data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its use. Because we don’t identify visitors, in most cases we hold nothing that can be linked to you. To make a request, email admin@gottaenglish.com. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority.
Children
Gotta is meant for people aged 13 and over. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we add new features, such as accounts or a newsletter, we will update this page and the date above before they go live.
